IIT RTC Conference Announces Four Plenary Keynotes

We are delighted to announce four exciting keynote presentations for the 2019 IIT RTC Conference, covering the most pressing topics and latest innovations in real-time communications, presented by leading subject matter experts! The conference takes place October 14 – 16, 2019 on IIT’s Main Campus in Chicago, Illinois. Everyone working at the intersection of voice, video, messaging, mobility, the Cloud and the Web has things to share, things to learn and people to meet at this year’s conference. Register now to reserve your spot to join our stellar keynote sessions!

Keynote addresses

Tuesday, October 15

11:00 AM – Noon: How to make a Difference: Communication Protocols and Regulatory Protocols; Eric Burger, Georgetown University.

As former CTO of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Dr. Eric Burger is uniquely qualified to share his insights into the priorities and realities of the regulators. Come learn how engineers can constructively contribute to making the world a better place.

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Meet the TADHack Winners & TADHack Global Review; Alan Quayle, TADS

This is an opportunity to meet some of the TADHack Global winners from the prior weekend (12-13 October), and see the power of what programmable telecoms can accomplish. The hacks demonstrate what teams can create by mashing up programmable telecoms with many other services available over the web to solve problems across all aspects of people’s lives.

Wednesday, October 16

11:00 AM – Noon: Networking research – A reflection in the middle years; Henning Schulzrinne, Columbia University

Join former CTO of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and Levi Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University Henning Schulzrinne as he shares his perspective on the role of network engineering in an era where the Internet has matured into a vast and critical infrastructure.

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Robocalling Mitigation – Implementing the STIR/SHAKEN Framework; Panelists, Chris Wendt, Comcast; Drew Morin, T-Mobile; Eric Ashby, AT&T

With unwanted robocalls representing far and away the biggest consumer complaint to the FCC (over 200,000 complaints each year – around 60 percent of all the complaints received), there has been a massive response by regulatory and judicial parties as well as the telephone service providers and their vendors to help solve this problem. This panel of experts from major tier 1 carriers will discuss some of the various ways that the US telephone network is transforming to adapt to helping consumers control their telephone experience, identify bad actors in the telephone network and block them, and ultimately with the help of SHAKEN/STIR, restore trust in calling party identity.

Early-bird Registration – Hotel Reservations

Early-bird conference registration expires September 1. Attendees who register by September 1 can take advantage of attractive early bird full conference registration price of $300. Register now!

Discounted rooms at the Chicago South Loop Hotel are also available through September 1. Further information to help you with hotel reservations is available at Travel/Hotel page of the Conference website.

What is the IIT RTC Conference?

The IIT RTC Conference is the premier global thought-leadership event for industry and academic experts in the rapidly changing field of real-time communications. For fourteen years running, the IIT School of Applied Technology has hosted software developers, network engineers, entrepreneurs, business executives, students, and academic educators and researchers to promote an open exchange of ideas that has shaped the direction and ongoing development of real-time communications. Conference participants and presentations focus on the technical challenges whose resolutions lead to long-term business opportunities. The participants come away with new ideas to help drive success in their own companies and forge potentially beneficial long-term partnerships. Participants from the research and academic community get an appreciation of the felt needs of enterprise and industry.  This helps them identify useful research goals that will not only help optimize present solutions but also chart a path for future efforts.

WebRTC Track Highlights

WebRTC Track

WebRTC has come a long way since 2012 when it became an open source standard for allowing JavaScript code to access the microphone and camera via the browser, permitting peer-to-peer video, audio, and data connections to be created directly between browsers.

Today, WebRTC is an important part of modern web and mobile applications, and is being used in billions of browsers and mobile phones by popular services including Google Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, SnapChat, and many, many others. It currently enables video and audio communications in a wide range of industries, including social media, telecommunications, healthcare, education, broadcasting, and more.

This growth in the use of WebRTC has taken the HTML5 standard from the realm of niche telecommunications developers and introduced it into enterprise application development and made communications technology accessible to a wider range of development teams.

In this track we will:

  • Go over the current status of WebRTC from a standards and market perspective
  • Explore best practices for implementing WebRTC, covering topics such as web/mobile development, testing, and security
  • Examine leading use cases for WebRTC based communication applications
  • Discuss the future of the WebRTC standard

Track Highlights include:

WebRTC 1.0: Leveraging New Features – Bernard Aboba, Microsoft

Trivia and Gaming with WebRTC – Kyle Bank, Phenix Real Time Solutions

SFU’s, Simulcast and SVC: What’s new in WebRTC? – Lorenzo, Miniero, Meetecho

Advanced WebRTC Testing with KITE Network Instrumentation – Ludovic Roux, CoSMo Software

Off-label WebRTC use cases: AI & ML in the Cloud – James Cadd, Microsoft

How and Why quality impacts productivity in a contact center – Varun Singh, callstats.io

Register now to take advantage of attractive early prices!

Track Highlights

Programmable Telecom Networks

Today’s application developers create embedded voice, video, and messaging applications of all kinds that use the ubiquitous IP-enabled wireless networks, smartphones and tablets that have become the norm. These applications provide a much richer, contextual experiences than were possible in the past.

At the same time, programmable networks are giving rise to a new class of developer – network engineers who can programmatically interact with the networks they administer. Programmatic interfaces enable us to automate the creation of new network services. They also enable monitoring and scaling existing network services in real time to meet the rapidly increasing demands of the applications that run on top of them.

This evolution makes it possible to build, deploy, and operate new communications services quickly and with relative ease. It increases the number of communications developers and ushers in an era of “programmable telecom networks” that are focused not only on technologies such as 5G and virtualization through NFV/SDN, but also on a growing set of intersections with natural language processing (NLP), machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain distributed ledgers, and many others.

This track will focus on the technologies behind the shift to programmable telecom networks, new skills required for the emerging class of network developers, and how these technologies are democratizing the way developers and network engineers create value and solve problems in disparate verticals. We will also delve into the intersection of voice, video and messaging technologies with other disciplines to examine potential threats and opportunities as developers and customers define new cutting-edge services and create new, disruptive applications.

Track highlights include:

Network programming made easy by open source and standards; Charles Eckel, Cisco

Edge Navigator: Who is the Edge for?; Geoff Hollingworth, MobiledgeX

Software Defined Service Provider Clouds; Ian Hood, Red Hat

The Future of the Agora RTC Stack; Sid Sharma, Agora.io

Decentralized Cloud Communication Network; Steve Wei, TOP Network

5G – Delivering progammable networks; Kelly Krick, Ericsson

Register now to take advantage of attractive early prices!
