Next Generation Emergency Communications – Track Highlights

Smart devices and their networks flourish in the public space providing large data stores that can be used to locate end users and their needs and capabilities. But this type of information and support are not available to the operators and first responders who must deal with life-threatening situations in which accurate and real-time information – primarily highly accurate handset-based location – are needed.

Mobile Operating Systems were updated In 2018 to include functions that provide a way for secondary data streams of hybrid location, and other information to reach the Public Safety Answering Points and their operators during emergency calls.

These new capabilities raise serious concerns around security and the impact of this new flood of data about to hit our emergency networks. These new data types have overwhelmed the Public Safety industry with a demand for new skillsets in IP network resiliency and engineering, security and the adoption of quantum level protection such as blockchain.

Are we about to flood Public Safety networks with so much data they will be ineffective? Can we provide the information, education and technology to foster a new generation of Public Safety, Security and Communications Officers capable of operating under these conditions?

This track will continue to highlight new technologies, and challenge the operational impact of new concepts, openly discussing the best practices required for Next Generation emergency services in both the public and private sectors. NG911 is now in play, but are we ready?
