Company: National Emergency Numbers Association (NENA)
Title: Interoperability Program Manager
About: Brooks Shannon began his career in 9-1-1 over eighteen years ago as a software engineer, developing PSAP and mobile mapping applications, geographic information systems (GIS) data management tools, and NG9-1-1 core services such as the Emergency Call Routing Function (ECRF) and Location Validation Function (LVF). He then transitioned to product management and business development, focusing on ways to leverage GIS and location-based services to improve emergency response. His most recent position was Vice President of GIS at RapidDeploy, where he was responsible for geospatial features, functionality, and strategy across the company’s entire suite of products. Throughout his career, Brooks has been committed to the development of standards-based, interoperable systems that make the promise of NG9-1-1 a reality. His previous involvement with NENA, including participating in and leading technical working groups, co-chairing the NENA Development Steering Council Data Structures Committee, and participating in NENA’s Industry Collaboration Events since 2009, two of which he served as co-chair, afforded him the opportunity to help advance NG9-1-1 across the industry at large, constantly driving towards the goal of interoperability.
